MotionBuilder 2010 delivers faster overall performance, expanded physics capabilities, productivity-enhancing animation workflows, and improved interoperability with Autodesk® Maya®, Autodesk® 3ds Max®, and Autodesk® Softimage® software.
As the leading, real-time 3D character animation software, Autodesk® MotionBuilder® 2010 is an ideal tool for high-volume
game animation pipelines, director-driven virtual cinematography and real-time character simulations. This latest release
of the software delivers faster overall performance, expanded real-time physics capabilities, productivity-enhancing
animation workflows and improved interoperability with Autodesk® Maya®, Autodesk® 3ds Max® and Autodesk®
Softimage® software.
Accelerated Performance
At the core of MotionBuilder 2010 is a real-time engine that makes it one of the fastest animation tools on the market.
MotionBuilder is ideal for director-driven virtual cinematography, performance animation and real-time character
simulations. Now users can work more efficiently than ever before.
- New improvements and memory optimization of the core engine help to provide superior performance when
handling large scene files.
- The nonlinear editing capabilities of the Story Tool are now faster than ever, enabling rapid handling of data for
cinematics and motion editing scenes.
Productivity-Geared Animation Workflows
Project complexity may be increasing, but MotionBuilder 2010 still enables animators to take on demanding, high-volume
animation projects.
- Enhanced pose control support enables animators to capture poses and apply them to another object for rapid reuse
of animations.
- Support for user-defined keying groups enables animators to work more efficiently with custom rigs, props,
cameras, lights, as well as define their own methodology for setting keys.
- The Actor tool has been exposed into Python® scripting language, allowing users to save time by automating the
setup and transfer of motion-capture data onto a character.
Expanded Physics and Character Simulation Capabilities
Building on the character simulation capabilities introduced in MotionBuilder 2009, this release unlocks a number of
precision workflows that give animators a higher degree of control over simulations.
- Joints can now be used to connect multiple simulated objects together for the purposes of a simulation. This
means that a user can hook props onto their character and have the secondary animation automatically solved by
the physics engine.
- A new pose-to-pose workflow gives animators the ability to guide or match their ragdoll simulations to userdefined
poses.
